# Connect

> Add Argil to ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Gemini, Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI or the Grok CLI.

Chat apps sign you in with your Argil account. Coding agents take an API key, or sign you in when they can open a browser. Either way, the client works in one workspace: it uses that workspace's models, library and credits.

## Chat apps

> [tab] ChatGPT
>
> **1. Add Argil**
>
> In ChatGPT, turn on **Developer mode** in **Settings → Plugins → Advanced**, then **Create** a plugin:
>
> * **Name:** `Argil`
> * **URL:** `https://mcp.argil.ai/mcp`
> * **Authentication:** OAuth
>
> **2. Sign in**
>
> ChatGPT opens Argil. Sign in, pick the workspace ChatGPT may use, and approve.
>
> **3. Ask**
>
> Mention Argil, or simply ask for an image or a video.

> [tab] Claude
>
> **1. Add the connector**
>
> On [claude.ai](https://claude.ai) or in Claude Desktop, open **Settings → Connectors** and select **Add custom connector**:
>
> * **Name:** `Argil`
> * **URL:** `https://mcp.argil.ai/mcp`
>
> On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds it once for the organization; members then connect it for themselves.
>
> **2. Sign in**
>
> Select **Connect**. Claude opens Argil: sign in, pick the workspace Claude may use, and approve.
>
> **3. Turn it on in a chat**
>
> In a conversation, open the tools menu and make sure **Argil** is on. It then works on claude.ai, Claude Desktop and the Claude mobile apps.

> [tab] Grok
>
> **1. Add the connector**
>
> Open [grok.com/connectors](https://grok.com/connectors), select **New Connector**, then **Custom**, and enter the URL `https://mcp.argil.ai/mcp`.
>
> On Grok Business and Enterprise, an admin adds it first in the xAI console; members then connect it for themselves.
>
> **2. Sign in**
>
> Grok opens Argil: sign in, pick the workspace Grok may use, and approve.
>
> **3. Ask**
>
> Ask Grok for an image or a video, or mention Argil.

> [tab] Gemini
>
> **1. Add a custom app**
>
> On [gemini.google.com](https://gemini.google.com), open **Settings → Connected apps**, select **Add a custom app**, and enter the URL `https://mcp.argil.ai/mcp`.
>
> Custom apps need a personal Google account, with Gemini's activity setting turned on.
>
> **2. Sign in**
>
> Gemini opens Argil: sign in, pick the workspace Gemini may use, and approve.
>
> **3. Ask**
>
> Ask Gemini for an image or a video, or mention Argil. Argil then also works in the Gemini mobile apps.

**Your own files.** Chat apps do not pass files attached to a message to Argil. Upload the file in your [Argil library](https://www.argil.ai) and say "use my latest upload", or give a public link.

## Coding agents

Create an API key in [**Workspace settings → API keys**](https://www.argil.ai/workspace-settings?tab=api-keys) and export it:

```bash theme={null}
export ARGIL_API_KEY="<your API key>"
```

> [tab] Claude Code
>
> ```bash theme={null}
> claude mcp add --transport http argil https://mcp.argil.ai/mcp \
>   --header "Authorization: Bearer $ARGIL_API_KEY"
> ```
>
> Check it with `/mcp`: `argil` is listed as connected. Add `--scope user` to use it in every project.
>
> To sign in instead of using a key, leave out `--header`, then run `/mcp`, select `argil` and **Authenticate**.

> [tab] Codex
>
> Add to `~/.codex/config.toml`:
>
> ```toml theme={null}
> [mcp_servers.argil]
> url = "https://mcp.argil.ai/mcp"
> bearer_token_env_var = "ARGIL_API_KEY"
> ```
>
> Check it with `codex mcp list`.

> [tab] Gemini CLI
>
> Add to `~/.gemini/settings.json`:
>
> ```json theme={null}
> {
>   "mcpServers": {
>     "argil": {
>       "httpUrl": "https://mcp.argil.ai/mcp",
>       "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer $ARGIL_API_KEY" }
>     }
>   }
> }
> ```
>
> Check it with `/mcp`. Leave `trust` off: Argil spends credits, so let Gemini CLI ask before each call.

> [tab] Grok CLI
>
> ```bash theme={null}
> grok mcp add --transport http argil https://mcp.argil.ai/mcp \
>   --header 'Authorization: Bearer ${ARGIL_API_KEY}'
> ```
>
> The single quotes keep the variable in the config, so the key is never written to disk. Check it with `grok mcp doctor argil`.

> [tab] Other clients
>
> Any client that speaks MCP over Streamable HTTP works:
>
> * **URL:** `https://mcp.argil.ai/mcp`
> * **Header:** `Authorization: Bearer <your API key>`, or OAuth sign-in if the client supports it.

**Your own files.** Point the agent at a local file ("use `./assets/serum.png`") and it uploads it to your library.

**Approvals.** Clients ask before a tool that creates or deletes something. To stop being asked while a video renders, allow the read tools, such as `get_generation` (in Claude Code: `mcp__argil__get_generation`).

## Disconnect

* **ChatGPT:** **Settings → Plugins → Argil → Disconnect**.
* **Claude:** **Settings → Connectors → Argil → Disconnect**.
* **Grok:** remove Argil in [grok.com/connectors](https://grok.com/connectors).
* **Gemini:** remove Argil in **Settings → Connected apps**.
* **Coding agents:** remove the server (`claude mcp remove argil`, `grok mcp remove argil`…), and revoke the key in **Workspace settings → API keys**.

Leaving the workspace, or being removed from it, ends every connection at once.
